Spoken English Training for Young Professionals

Hi

The need to speak English in your job is becoming more important in countries such as India as business becomes more global. This can put additional pressure on you, the final year college student, who is seeking employment with a large multi-national company.

Basically the spoken English skills you currently have may not be sufficient for you to have the career you want. There is no question that this is one of the gaps in English Language training that is currently available in the marketplace - that is, transforming your social English into professional English.  For example, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Can I succeed in an interview conducted in English?
  2. How will I cope with speaking English throughout my working day?
  3. What skills do I need on the telephone when speaking in English?
  4. How do I run an effective meeting in spoken English?
  5. Am I able to give a management presentation in English?

For some people, these tasks can be difficult even when conducted in their native language. Just think of the additional pressure or stress that this could create if conducted in a second language! That is why training of these skills is so imortant to final year students and young professionals.

Let’s not underestimate this, it could really transform you, your self-confidence and your career. As a result, one such English Professional course has been created and will be rolled out in the classroom in India during the remainder of 2009. An on-line version will be available in December of this year.

Remember that education is a continual process. If you think your spoken English is okay, ask yourself, “Are my spoken English skills sufficient for the workplace?” And even if they are, we could all benefit from some additional skills that come about by learning interview techniques, public speaking skills, etc.

Let’s learn together, Poppy

The Best of South American Spanish

If you want to learn Spanish travelling to South America for a stay is one of the best things you can do. People often manage to go right from beginner to a decent level of fluency in Spanish by living in South America for a few months. It’s important to speak only Spanish while you are there clearly, and if you do you will soak up the language like a sponge.

On top of that when you live in South America you will have a terrific time. And if you are happy and enjoying yourself you can learn much quicker.

Comparing South America to other native Spanish speaking countries around the world, apart from being cheap, another advantage is that the South American accents are generally better. The Spanish there is very clean and lyrical, and lacks the lisp on the ‘th’ that they have in Spain. You can check out the best places to learn Spanish in Spain here: Click Here

Although in Argentina alone they also have a different lisp. Most people go to these five South American countries to learn Spanish:

Argentina is a wonderful place for anyone to visit – although they do have their lisp on the ‘ll’ – they say ‘sh’. It is a land of true culture: with some of the wolrd’s finest food, wine, dancing and conversation (people say). Chile on the other hand, is a country with more incredible natural beauty and stunning extremes – Chile offers skiing, jungle trekking, surfing and just about every outdoor acivity possible.

What many people consider to be the most beautiful Spanish accent is the Venezuelan accent. And Venezuela, like Chile, is a country that has every natural attraction you could wish for in one place. Colombia is for people who would like to tred the les-trodden route and find somewhere more undiscovered by the world. After a decade of civil strife, Colombia is now safe to visit, and an excellent place to learn Spanish.

But the most popular of them all for visitors learning Spanish is Ecuador. Quito is a wonderful, cheap, friendly, and convenient place to go with many excellent Spanish schools waiting for you.

The Wonder of English Grammar

Hi!

It's time to be honest with yourself. What’s the one thing about the English language that really stops you progressing to where we want to get to?

Easy question – GRAMMAR of course.

The word "grammar" by itself can switch off students from the English language. There is a widely held belief that before you can start to speak a language fluently, you must spend days, weeks and months learning the fundamentals of English grammar.

This by itself can create limiting beliefs –

“I can’t learn English until I learn the grammar”
"Speaking English is beyond me, I will never learn grammar"
“It is going to take me forever before I can speak English confidently”

This reason by itself can stop many aspiring English students in their tracks. The initial desire and motivation to learn English is lost. After a few false starts, the student gives up. Okay, I was there! Yes I too was exactly where you are right now. You wouldn’t believe the number of English grammar books and courses I have been on, trying and overcome this limiting belief.

And then one day it dawned on me. It was a huge revelation for me. It was a paradigm shift for me. To explain, let me ask you this simple question?

"I have never yet seen a young child with a grammar text!"?”

The answer is clearly no! How does a child learn a language? You must practice and practice the following - learn phrases, understand them and speak them. This is easy right? Well clearly the execution is not quite as easy as it sounds, but the principle certainly is.

So how do I apply this to my spoken English development? There are various learning techniques that are available that avoid you going through the torture of learning the fundamentals of grammar. I really believe this. More on this in later posts.

I hate to see English students stopping their lessons just because of grammar. Continue to follow the updates at spokenenglishonline.com and I will share with you some of the readily available techniques to speak English with confidence and have fun along the way.

Take care, Poppy
