Since 1987, Global Sources has designed and published special projects for companies whose business was expanding in the international markets. Traditionally companies had used brochures to market to their clients in a somewhat costly and inefficient matter. Costly - because most companies need full-color brochures to explain their products and services. Inefficient - because most recipients of the brochure do not have the space or the incentive to file and keep even the most beautiful brochure. We were asked by a client to create a unique way to showcase their products and services.
The success of our creations speak for themselves. They have been used as a marketing tool by such well known names as Exxon, Texaco, Hilton Hotels, etc. Of course large companies have the buying power to get whatever they want, and need at a unit cost that justifies the expenditure. The challenge was to make it affordable for medium and small companies to use also.
In 1995, we came to realize that we had created the ONLY international with complete information about all countries worldwide. We had received many requests about providing versions of the diary that people could give to their friends or loved ones. Because of the large demand for such a product, we finally chose to branch off into the retail market on the Internet for the year 2000.
