The History of Sir Richard Branson

Looking back to the late 60′s we can see howRichard Branson began his career. Aged fifteen, he had already started his first business enterprise by selling Christmas Trees. Nevertheless Branson did not let this deter him. Aged just seventeen he was selling students magazines and books. At the beginning of the 70′s Virgin Mail Order began; Richard’s first record shop in Oxford Street. The hysteria this caused was phenomenal; one of its earliest releases included Mike Oldfield’s ‘Tubular Bells’, which sold more than 5 million copies.

During the 80′s Virgin Atlantic Airways and Virgin cargo launched to fly us to all sorts of exotic locations. Next Virgin Holidays was formed; Virgin’s commitment was not only to get people to their destinations in style but also to keep them there in style.

During the 90′sVirgin continued to develop even though it sold Virgin Records to Thorn EMI. Next Virgin Radio launched. Subsequently Virgin vodka and cola were launched, causing quite a stir in the cola and vodka industries.

Following this V2 music was created, along with Virgin trains and Virgin Brides. Due to vicious competition Virgin Brides didn’t seem to stand a chance. Despite achieving so much so quickly in the 90′s, Branson’s success did not end there. In 1999, Virgin Mobile was launched. This changed the scope of the market dramatically as it introduced cheaper tariffs than most other network providers offered.

In 2000, more companies were set up, including Virgin Wine and Virgin Energy. Four years later Branson launched Virgin Galactic. It seems the 21st century appears to have been a hugely successful time for him, and by the sounds of it, the future only holds more positive things for Branson. What should we expect from Virgin in the future? Well, we don’t know what Branson will introduce next but it’s sure to be great!
