Mexican Insurance Review – Is Buying Mexican Insurance Online A BETTER Idea?
We asked one client what he thought about buying Mexican Auto Insurance online rather than at one of the booths, filling stations, or roadside stands along the border.
This is what he said:
“I’ve driven in Mexico for years. Most vacationers plan their trip, drive to the border and then remember that they need to by car insurance …then they proceed to buy their policy at the closest roadside stand. It’s the same as buying meat and groceries at Mobil or a local mini-mart… your selection is limited, and you don’t have any way to search the insurers or the policies that sell at the border. It’s take it or forget it… the insurance coverage is a la carte, who knows what you’re actually getting, AND somehow they add additional FEES! It’s much better to purchase online and ahead of schedule!”

Also consider this: There is a LARGE difference between paper generated Mexico insurance policies and electronic Internet Mexico Auto Insurance Policies.
Paper policies, are made in the age-old conventional manner, i.e. written by hand by brokers on the border and agents throughout Calif., TX, and AZ in localized insurance agencies and posted to Mexico.
Basically, an insurance salesman will manually fill out the paperwork, make a trip to the post office, and mail your policy to Mexico. In an attempt to cut costs, it is not uncommon to see an agency wait to mail policies until they have sold a number of them. Next, it can take more than a week for the whole lot to get through customs and arrive in Mexico City, where most of the large insurers are situated. Then it is processed by your insurer’s system database one at a time.
Internet policies are a far more efficient method of quickly notifying your insurer and distributing policies to you fast by Website, E-mail or by Fax so YOU BENEFIT.
The real question is what happens if you have an accident and the insurance company doesn’t have physical evidence of your policy within their system? What happens if you cause an accident on a weekend or at night? Most insurance brokers work 5 days a week?
Since you need to stay at the accident scene and report all accidents while in Mexico, and most auto accidents are adjudicated within hours, having physical possession of your Mexico Insurance online certificate, which needs to be verified by each insurer, is important.
