Who can ignore the beauty of Wales
Picture Wales in your mind, and what do you see? What I see are: rugged mountainous regions, rolling hills and of course the sheep grazing in the valleys. Wales, in a world where natural landscapes are rare, retains a certain charm and simplicity. It may go some way to account for the amazing visitor levels of nearly 13 milliion in a single year!
As a destination, Wales has something to suit everyone, historic buildings, free space and sports for all levels and ages. Another fascinating option when considering things to do in Wales, is exploring the ancient mines and caves litter the hillsides.
Wales has had rich and dramatic past with bloody conflicts and royal sagas. There are 641 castles in this small country, built about 1000 years ago which display a range of ancient and modern styles of archetecture. Beaumaris Castle on the isle of Anglessey, for example, begun in the 13th century, is one of the most sophisticated examples of medieval British military architecture. In addition to castles, Wales also boasts a number of ancient abbeys and churches that are also open to the public. While you take in all the historical atmosphere, you could visit one of the 320 or so art galleries at your disposal or the National museum to savour the culture.
If checking out Welsh history is not your idea of perfect holidays in Wales, there is plenty of scope for indulging in all sorts of adventure sports. On offer is anything from mountain-biking and walking to kayaking and kite surfing.
The ideal holiday though, is one that will allow you to set your own pace. Cottages in Wales are the perfect location for a lazy vacation when you decide to do as little or as much as you fancy. A cottage, unlike a hotel, lets you make your own decisions and plans and removes the need to worry about other people and their habits. It’s a great way to spend some quality time with family or friends, away from jobs and the stress of normal life.
