Atlanta: The Jewel In The Crown Of The Deep South
Having recently returned from the U.S in somewhat usual and unexpected circumstances I thought I’d share my experiences of the city of Atlanta with you. Having arrived at Tampa Airport, Florida tanned, relaxed and about 2 stone heavier after a family break on Anne-Marie island off the West coast of the Floridian peninsula we were fully expecting to hop on our flight back across the pond. Try to imagine our disbelief then then when a sales representative told us that the flight was overbooked and we’d not be flying home that day! Our disbelief soon turned to elation when we were told that we’d be flying first class to Atlanta and staying overnight there all expenses paid equipped with a generous amount of spending money!
Understandably it didn’t take us long to adjust to the idea that our Florida holidays were going to be extended and within an hour we were boarding an Atlanta-bound Delta flight. The airport was vast and one of the most impressive I’ve ever seen, we received an excellent service, being whisked off into an air conditioned minibus with an extremely polite, intelligent and entertaining driver. Our luck seemed unabating when we were told of the four star accommodation we were being treated to, the plush, ornate lobby could only elude to our luxurious, cavernous rooms overlooking a rooftop basketball court!
Atlanta is the jewel of the deep south, so we were told, and the city certainly had plenty to offer. Atlanta is perhaps most famous for being the birthplace of Coca-Cola and it certainly isn’t shy about it, documenting the brands history at museum that appeals to both adults and kids. As well as this there is so much more on offer, for example, the CNN head offices and the Olympic park, a monument to the games held in 1996! Besides this you can explore the CNN headquarters as well as the Olympic park. Atlanta makes a great alternative to New York holidays or California holidays.
