New Orleans – Travel Guide

Travel is more of a passion to me rather than just a hobby and I love to travel across the globe. Though travel is my passion but I don’t want to travel full time as I love my job, my family and my friends very much. I can’t think of leaving all of these and set out for travel across the globe. Unlike many travelers I don’t like to stay in hostels or traveling in 3rd class so money is a big factor for me . .

I go out for vacation at least 4-5 times a year to various places. A few months back I went to New Orleans for couple of weeks and it was a great trip with loads of fun and relaxation..

I went to New Orleans with one of my girlfriend, Ivy; who loves to travel as me and was thinking of going somewhere for a long time and when I told her about my plan she was more than happy to join me.

I believe that holidays are for meeting new people and chlling out with friends rather than exploring as many places as you can. Before traveling anywhere I do lot of research about good hotels, things to do, local transportations and history of the place. After doing thorough reasearch I book my hotel, flight tickets and tickets for other attractions as well. Most of the time if you book your ticket well in advance you get a better deal than booking at the last minute. A few years back I had visited Eiffel tower and didn’t book my ticket in advance and as a result I had to stand for more than 3 hours in the queue and after that incident I always prefer to book my tickets in advance.

We went to New Orleans in July this year. Our flight landed at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport at 2 o’clock in the afternoon; from there we took a taxi to our hotel, The Ritz-Carlton. Our hotel was located nearly 12 miles from the airport and one way trip costs $20. You can also book a round trip for just $38 at the airport. The airport shuttle will pick you up at least 3 hours in advance of the departure flight. When we reached our hotel it was around 3:30 PM and we were very tired so after having a sandwich I went to my room to had a good sleep.

In the evening we didn’t do much as we were very tired so we decided to take a walk and explore the nearby areas. Our New Orleans hotel was situated in the French Quarter, which is the most famous area of the city. French Quarter has many historic buildings and is a National Historic Landmark. During the Spanish rule this area was known as Vieux Carr© and many historic buildings were built during the Spanish rule. I loved the area and decided to explore it further before leaving the city. We decided to have our dinner at a local restaurant named, Angeli. It was a small Greek restaurant which serves delicious food at a very reasonable rate.

After we finished our dinner we headed to our hotel as next day we had to wake up early to go to New Orleans School of Cooking to learn how to cook local dishes like Gumbo, Jambalaya, Shrimp Creole and few more other dishes. We have booked our classes from 10 AM 12:30PM and it cost us $29 per person. As I had heard a lot about this class so didn’t want to miss the experience.

After coming back from our trip I invited few of my friends to taste few traditional Louisiana cuisine that I had learned from my cooking class in New Orleans and every body loved my food.. I am currently planning to attend the Tomatina event, where people throw tomatoes at each other, in Spain very soon.
