10 Things To Remember When You Travel With Toddlers
It can be torture to travel with toddlers. New sights and sounds can be overwhelming to a young child and vacation excitement can quickly turn into temper tantrums if you’re not prepared.
You can consider these 10 parent-practiced tips to make traveling with toddlers fun.
Choose a family-friendly destination. Opt for a locale that is accustomed to having kids around instead of choosing the crowded tourist destinations.
Safety first! Make sure that the seat car of your child is properly secure. To help block the sun, you should also use a removable window shade.
Don’t forget to bring some entertainment. During their time in the car, make sure that there are games, movies, or anything they can play with. This will help pass the time and make them less focused on being in the car.
Plan your rest stops. If you’re driving, you can break up the monotony by stopping every couple of hours or even more frequently if necessary. Kids, after being cooped up in a car for a while, need to stretch out. You may want to bring a ball during these breaks that you can throw or kick around.
You must be flexible. Realistic expectations is what you should set and allow your child to soak up the experience at their own pace. You might want to limit your activities to one a day. Either that or wind up with an over-stimulated toddler.
Don’t forget to bring water and plenty of snacks. Fruit, granola bars, mini juice cartons and small boxes of cereal make for great, healthy snacks.
Bring a beloved item. A blankie or cuddly toy will help your toddler feel safe and secure. It would be good to have a replacement on hand as well. You will save some heartache if in case the original gets lost.
Start your day early and end it early. Kids are at their best in the morning, so plan accordingly.
It’s important to stick to your routine. Eating, napping and playing at the same time each day may be all your child needs to feel comfortable in a new environment.
Try taking tons of pictures. Your kids won’t be young forever so enjoy every moment.
